CHARGE YOUR VEHICLE ON THE GO

Public charging stations are a convenient way to charge your vehicle’s battery while you’re away from home. Depending on the station, public chargers offer Level 2 or DC fast charging to provide power to your vehicle.

To charge your electric vehicle on the go:

1. Use the Charging app in your vehicle’s center display or mobile app to find a public charging station.

2. Park the vehicle and locate the charging port on the outside of the vehicle. Usually, it’s on the driver’s side below the outside rearview mirror or behind the rear wheel well.

a. Press the charge port door until you hear a click, and it will release to open.

b. If your vehicle has a motorized charge port door, press the emblem or indicator on the door to open the charge port. The door will automatically open and a ring light around the charging receptacle will illuminate.

c. If your vehicle’s charge port has a dust cover, remove it before DC fast charging.

3. Plug the charging station’s cord into the vehicle’s charge port.

4. Follow the steps on the charging station or the appropriate mobile app to start charging.

Charging Best Practices:

For most GM EVs, capping your battery’s charge at 80% helps promote battery health and optimal regenerative braking performance for daily use.

To complete the charging process:

When the vehicle has reached your targeted charge level, some models will automatically stop charging and their plug will be unlocked. You can also stop the charging process manually. To stop charging and unplug your vehicle:

1. Stop charging in one of the following ways:

a. Press the virtual Stop Charge button in your vehicle’s center display or mobile app and unplug the connector from the vehicle.
b. Press the latch release button or Request to Stop button (NACS only) on top of the vehicle connector and unplug it from the vehicle.

Note: If you’re unable to free a NACS connector from your vehicle, ensure the vehicle doors are unlocked and press the Request to Stop button again. Listen for the inlet’s locking mechanism to retract before pulling the connector out.

2. Replace the dust cover inside the charge port (if equipped) after DC fast charging.

3. Close the charge port door in one of the following ways:

a. Manually close it and press until you hear a click.
b. Press the black rectangular button to the left of the motorized charge port door (if equipped).
c. If the vehicle has an automatic motorized charge port door, it will shut on its own when you shift out of PARK. Note: Some vehicles will emit three beeps upon opening the driver door, reminding you to close the charge port door when left open.
