THE DRIVE WITHIN
You’ve come a long way from your early days in Maryland to the world stage. What still drives you when no one’s watching?
Honestly, it’s remembering where I came from. I grew up watching my dad work crazy hours just so my brother and I could be around the sport. That perspective never leaves me. When no one’s watching, I’m thinking about the people who believed in me before I believed in myself, and I’m trying to honor that.
Your game is known for heart, creativity and flair. How do those same qualities show up in how you live off the court?
I like to have fun with life. I don’t take myself too seriously, but I’m intentional about what I do. I love connecting with people, trying new things, bringing energy into every room. I think the creativity you see on court is just me being myself—the same guy who laughs loud, dresses how he wants and tries to make people feel good around him.
PERFORMANCE & PRECISION
Tennis is all about balance—power and control, speed and patience. Do you see a connection between that and what you value in a great vehicle?
Absolutely. A great car like my Cadillac feels like the perfect point: smooth when you need it, aggressive when you want it. I like power, but I also want precision and comfort. It’s the same mindset I bring into a match: stay controlled, but be ready to unleash when the moment calls for it.
How does your ride to a match set your mindset—does it calm you, focus you or fire you up?
It depends on the day, but being in a nice ride always gets me centered. It’s like my little bubble before everything goes crazy. My ESCALADE IQ lets me lock in: music on those AKG* speakers, windows up, just me getting mentally ready. By the time I step out of the vehicle, I’m in my zone.
You’ve experienced Cadillac’s lineup up close. Which model or design feels most like you and why?
I would say the ESCALADE. It’s bold, it stands out, but it still feels grounded and smooth. It’s got presence without trying too hard; that’s kind of how I like to carry myself. And let’s be honest, I like having that extra space.
LEGACY & THE FUTURE
You’ve inspired young players who never saw themselves in tennis before. What kind of legacy do you hope to leave?
I want kids from all backgrounds to look at me and say, “If he can do it, I can do it.” Tennis gave me everything, and I want to open that door wider for the next generation. My legacy, I hope, is showing that greatness can come from anywhere, and that being yourself is your superpower.
Cadillac’s purpose is to champion big dreams. What big dreams are you chasing next—on or off the court?
On court, I’m still chasing a Grand Slam. That’s the dream that keeps me pushing every single day. Off the court, I want to build something that lasts—my foundation was my start at that and a way to support kids and give back. Something bigger than tennis.
How does it feel to hear your name show up both on and off the court—in music, fashion and across culture?
It’s wild. When artists or designers mention me, it’s surreal. It means people see what I’m doing and connect with it. That’s a blessing. It fuels me to keep showing up as myself.
THE MOMENTS THAT MATTER
The US Open® has been home to some powerful moments in your career. As you look forward, what do you hope future moments at that stage say about your story?
I hope they say I kept coming back, kept growing, kept believing. The US Open is where I feel all the love, and I want my story there to lead to something historic—a moment that makes every kid in the stands feel like their dreams are possible too.
As a Cadillac collaborator, you’ve been part of major brand moments and hosted VIP guests in cities like NYC, Miami and Paris. What’s been the most enjoyable part of that experience for you?
Honestly, it’s the people. Being able to show guests the world of tennis up close, seeing their reactions, sharing those experiences—that’s the best part. And doing it with Cadillac, a brand that matches my values and my vibe, makes it even cooler. We’ve had some incredible moments together, and I’ve enjoyed every second.
