Available Automatic Seat Belt Tightening is designed to make your seat belt tighten slightly as your drive begins. It also activates during driving maneuvers, such as hard braking, that may indicate a potential collision.

How Automatic Seat Belt Tightening Works

The automated tightening system of this feature removes slack from your seat belt, positioning you closer to the seatback. This helps ensure the seat belt works as designed in the most effective manner.

 

Here are some things to keep in mind in vehicles with Automatic Seat Belt Tightening:

  • You may feel the seat belt automatically tighten at the beginning of your trip during everyday driving.
  • Hard braking or hard steering will also prompt the feature to activate.
  • You may hear the seat belt motor make some noise while driving.
  • If your seat belt is already detected by the system to be the proper tightness, it will not tighten any further.
  • The tightening function also activates with hard braking applied by the vehicle (for example, if safety features such as Automatic Emergency Braking or Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking are engaged).

WHY DID MY SEAT BELT TIGHTEN WITHOUT ME DOING ANYTHING?

These seat belts are powered by a small motor. Some noise is to be expected while driving.

CAN I DISABLE AUTOMATIC SEAT BELT TIGHTENING?

No, there is no option to disable the feature. The tightening function is automatic with seat belt use in vehicles with Automatic Seat Belt Tightening.

WILL THE SYSTEM AUTOMATICALLY TIGHTEN THE SEAT BELT AROUND A CHILD SAFETY SEAT?

No. When installed correctly, child safety seats have the proper degree of tightening to keep the child seat in position against the seat. Automatic Seat Belt Tightening will not impact or add to the protection child safety seats provide.
