HOW TO USE VISION ENHANCED AUTOMATIC PARKING ASSIST

Vision Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist uses cameras and ultrasonic sensors to detect lane lines so it can help you park your vehicle. It can automatically steer, brake and shift gears to park your vehicle into a detected parallel or perpendicular parking space while you are in the driver’s seat. It can also help you unpark. You must always be prepared to override the feature and take control.

How to Park Your Vehicle

1. Activate Vision Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist

  • Locate and press the Auto Park Assist button to activate the feature. Depending on your vehicle model, it can be found on the center display or as a hard switch to the left of the steering wheel.
  • The system will be ready to detect parking spaces when your vehicle is moving at low speeds (below 18 mph).

2. Choose Your Parking Mode

  • Select the desired parking type (parallel or perpendicular) and side on which you want to park (right or left) on the center display.

3. Detect a Parking Space

  • Drive slowly past potential parking spots. A beep and a notification on the center display will confirm a space has been detected.
  • If necessary, you can use your turn signal to change the side of the vehicle on which you’d like to search for a parking space.

4. Confirm and Begin Parking

  • Confirm the parking prompt on the center display to start the automatic parking process.
  • Once prompted, remove your hands from the steering wheel and take your foot off the brake. The system will begin maneuvering your vehicle at idle speed (maximum 3 mph).

5. Monitor the Parking Process

  • The system will automatically steer, brake and shift gears as needed to park your vehicle.
  • Watch the progress bar on the center display to track the status of the parking maneuver.
  • Be prepared to override the system by steering, braking or shifting gears if necessary.

6. Complete the Parking Maneuver

  • Once the vehicle is parked, the system will display a “Parking Complete” message, automatically shift to PARK and apply the parking brake.

How to Unpark Your Vehicle

  1. Press the Vision Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist button.
  2. When prompted, choose the direction in which you want to exit the parking spot and the type of parking.
  3. If the system determines it can unpark, it will automatically begin the maneuver.
  4. The vehicle will autonomously shift gears, brake and align your car for easy departure.
  5. You will see a message indicating when unparking is complete. Your vehicle will remain in DRIVE or a FORWARD gear with brakes applied. You may drive away or press the brake pedal to take control.

NOTE: Always stay alert and ready to manually override the system, if needed, during parking and unparking maneuvers. The system may not adapt to sudden changes such as moving traffic or pedestrians entering the parking space.

Helpful Tips for Using Vision Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist

  • Seat Belt Required: You need to remain in the driver’s seat with your seat belt buckled to use this feature. If you attempt to use it when unbuckled, you’ll receive a message saying the system is unavailable.
  • Keep Sensors and Cameras Clean: The system relies on cameras and sensors, which may fail to detect spaces if dirty. Clean them regularly to ensure proper functionality.
  • Check Calibration: When you first drive your vehicle off the dealership lot, the feature may require up to an hour of driving at low speeds (under 40 mph) to calibrate the cameras.

Q&As

WHY DIDN’T VISION ENHANCED AUTOMATIC PARKING ASSIST PARK WHERE I WANTED IT TO?

The system is designed to detect the fastest and easiest spot for the system to park in. The spot the system selects may be different than the one you might expect it to park in.

WHAT IF THE VEHICLE DOESN’T DETECT THE SPACE WHERE I WANT TO PARK?

If you want to park in a spot on your left, you should make sure you’ve turned on the left turn signal or selected the parking side from the center display.

Vision Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist may not detect spaces that are too small. Other factors could be low-visibility conditions, such as heavy snow or fog, or dirt on the sensors or cameras. You should always keep these sensors and cameras clean. The sensors look like small circular indentations and are located on the front and rear bumpers as well as on the front and rear side panels. There’s a rear camera, a forward-looking camera in the front grille/emblem area and two side-looking cameras mounted on each side mirror.

HOW CAN I CANCEL VISION ENHANCED AUTOMATIC PARKING ASSIST ONCE IT’S BEGUN?

You can always turn the steering wheel, shift gears or press the “Exit” or “X” button to override the feature. If you brake, Vision Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist will not disengage and will continue to maneuver when you lift your foot off the brake pedal. If you begin manual steering, it automatically disengages the system. The system will abort if the brake is pressed for an extended period or if the system has been inactive for a prolonged period.

WHY DID AUTOMATIC PARKING STOP? I DIDN’T OVERRIDE THE FEATURE.

The system will stop working if you shift gears, open any door or the trunk, or exceed the maximum allowed speed. You will see a message in your driver display indicating that the maneuver has been canceled. The system will also disengage if there is a high-priority vehicle message in the DIC or if there is a failure in the Vision Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist system.
