ABOUT ADAPTIVE NOISE MANAGEMENT
Adaptive Noise Management includes noise cancellation and sound enhancement features that, if equipped, can help reduce unwanted cabin noise, and create or amplify propulsion sounds for an elevated driving experience.
Using advanced sound technologies, Adaptive Noise Management was designed to provide a more enjoyable ride by managing sound within and around your vehicle. This sophisticated system includes:
- Noise Cancellation: Reduces disruptive sounds like road vibrations and tire slap noise for quieter cabin acoustics.
- Sound Enhancement: Provides or enhances propulsion system sounds, responding to driving style or conditions. For electric vehicles (EVs), it simulates engine sounds to mask other cabin noises and enhance driving ambiance; for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, it amplifies existing engine sounds to elevate driving engagement.
These features integrate seamlessly within your vehicle’s cabin and work in real time by monitoring sound input and output.
Does My Vehicle Have Adaptive Noise Management?
This feature is available in select GM models. To verify whether your vehicle has Adaptive Noise Management, check your vehicle’s equipment list for next-generation noise cancellation. You can also check your vehicle’s My Mode settings for options to adjust motor or engine sounds.
How Noise Cancellation Works
- Chassis-mounted accelerometers measure vibrations entering the cabin.
- Microphones within the cabin analyze sound levels in seating areas.
- Counter-sounds are generated through the audio system, neutralizing disruptive noises such as road vibrations, exhaust or engine hum.
How Sound Enhancement Works
- Generates dynamic sounds based on acceleration, drive mode or driving style.
- Plays adaptive sounds through interior and exterior speakers, enhancing the safety and driving experience.
- EVs feature motor sounds designed to mask background noise and comply with pedestrian-safety regulations.
Usage Tips:
- Noise Cancellation works automatically and adapts to varying road conditions for optimal results.
- Sound Enhancement motor sounds can be adjusted through the Driver Mode Control settings or disabled in EVs, if preferred. Activate Sport Mode to amplify propulsion sound for a performance-driven experience.
