TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS

WHEN YOUR SMART DEVICE IS NOT PAIRING

If your smart device, such as a phone or tablet, is not pairing to your vehicle’s Bluetooth connection, you should first check that your device and infotainment system’s software is up to date.* If that does not resolve your issue, you can follow the steps below.

*Note: You can check if your vehicle is eligible for software updates, or see the progress of an update, by selecting Settings > System > Vehicle Software > Updates.

1. Ensure Bluetooth is Enabled:

  • Go to the Settings menu on your smart device and select Bluetooth
  • Verify that Bluetooth is turned On
  • Then, select the Settings icon on your center display. Go to Bluetooth and make sure it is toggled On

2. Make Device Discoverable:

  • On your smart device, go to the Settings menu and select Bluetooth
  • Make sure that your device’s Bluetooth signal is discoverable to other devices

3. Pair New Device:

  • From your center display, press the Settings icon
  • From the Settings menu, select Bluetooth
  • From there, select Pair New Device
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process

4. Confirm Pairing Code:

  • Ensure the pairing code on your smart device matches the on-screen code
  • Confirm the pairing on both devices

5. Test the Connection:

  • Make a phone call or play music to ensure the Bluetooth connection is working

WHEN THERE IS A LOST BLUETOOTH CONNECTION

If your smart device was connected to Bluetooth in your vehicle and lost connection, or if you can’t start a Bluetooth connection in your vehicle, you can follow the steps below.

1. Check Range and Obstructions:

  • Ensure your vehicle and smart device are within range and there are no obstructions between them

2. Restart Devices:

  • Restart your smart device and your vehicle to reset the connection

3. Delete and Reconnect Your Device

  • Delete your device from your vehicle’s list of paired devices:
o With the vehicle On, use the vehicle’s center display to navigate to the Bluetooth Settings menu. From there, you can view pairable devices, including currently paired devices
    o Select the device name
    o Select Delete
o Confirm that the device name has been removed from the list of paired devices
  • Remove the vehicle from your device’s list of paired devices:
o In your device’s Settings menu, choose Bluetooth
o Find the vehicle name in the list of paired devices
o Choose Delete or Forget This Connection
  • After removing both connections:
    o Turn the vehicle Off
o Open and close the vehicle door
    o Wait two minutes
o Pair your device to the vehicle again

Q&As

WHAT IF MY DEVICE APPEARS TO BE PAIRED BUT WON’T CONNECT TO BLUETOOTH?

Check your device’s and vehicle’s paired devices lists to ensure that the connection is active. If it is in one of these lists but is not active, simply select the device or vehicle you’d like to connect. If you are still experiencing issues, you will need to delete and pair again by following the initial pairing instructions.

HOW CAN I STOP MY BLUETOOTH FROM CONNECTING TO AN OLD DEVICE?

Delete the device that is no longer in use from your vehicle’s paired devices list.

WHY DOES MY DEVICE RANDOMLY UNPAIR FROM MY VEHICLE?

When you pair a device with a vehicle, it involves a process of exchanging security credentials to allow your vehicle to gain access to it. An encryption key is generated and if the key is lost by either your device or the vehicle, they may need to be paired with each other again.

WHY WON’T MY DEVICE AUTOMATICALLY CONNECT TO BLUETOOTH?

Select the device or vehicle you’d like to connect. In most vehicles, you can only have one active Bluetooth connection at a time when your vehicle is on. Check your device’s and vehicle’s paired devices lists to see which device is active. The system defaults to the last paired device used in your vehicle. If that device isn’t active, it goes down the list of paired devices until it finds one that is active.
